# Creating a New CI Relation Type

Here you can add new relation types to describe the connections between CIs in your SysAid CMDB.

![CIRelationTypefilesCIRelationtypeCIRelationtype.jpg](https://cdn.document360.io/52d3cb6c-cc81-43c2-b6f7-cbabcb449271/Images/Documentation/CIRelationTypefilesCIRelationtypeCIRelationtype.jpg) CI relationships work in two directions: what the CI affects, and what's affected by the CI. When you connect two CIs using a particular relationship type, one CI becomes the affecting CI and the other becomes the affected CI.

Examples for CI relation types you may want to add are:

- Responsible for/Under the responsibility of
- Owns/Owned by
- Received by/Delivered to

Note that predefined CI relation types can't be edited.
