# Asset List

Every asset in SysAid appears in the asset list, whether it was discovered on your network, imported from another system, or added manually. Click an item in the asset list to view its full details.

To open the asset list, go to **Asset Manager** > **Asset Management** > **Asset List**.

Available for:

Customers using SysAid Spaces. If you're using SysAid Classic, see [Asset List Classic](https://documentation.sysaid.com/classic/docs/asset-list).

## Asset sources

Assets reach SysAid in several ways, and the way an asset arrived determines how much SysAid knows about it.

| Source | What SysAid collects | Learn more |
| --- | --- | --- |
| SysAid Agent | Full hardware and software inventory, availability, remote control, and agent logs. Updated automatically whenever a change is detected on the asset | [SysAid Agent Deployment Guide](/v1/docs/agent-deployment-guide) |
| WMI | Windows computer inventory, with nothing installed on the asset. These assets are also eligible for **Deploy Agent** from the list | [WMI Scan](/v1/docs/wmi-scan) |
| SNMP | Details from network hardware such as printers, switches, and routers | [SNMP Scan](/v1/docs/snmp-scan-list) |
| Lansweeper | Device data imported from your Lansweeper account, synced daily | [SysAid Asset Management via Lansweeper](/v1/docs/lansweeper-integration-with-sysaid) |
| Microsoft Intune | Imported devices, plus Intune-specific data | [Microsoft Intune Integration with SysAid](/v1/docs/microsoft-intune-integration-with-sysaid) |
| Manual | Only what you enter | [Working with the Asset List](https://documentation.sysaid.com/docs/working-with-the-asset-list) |
| CSV import | Only what the file contains | [Importing Assets](/v1/docs/import-assets) |

You can install the SysAid Agent on an asset that arrived through Lansweeper or Intune, but the Agent and the integration don't exchange data with each other.

Please note:

- An asset's source determines how much data SysAid holds about it and which controls work. Two assets can show the same tabs while one is rich with hardware and software detail and the other has only what an integration imported. Patch Management, for example, requires the SysAid Agent.
- Lansweeper and Intune enrich assets SysAid already knows about rather than duplicating them. An asset first discovered by the SysAid Agent or a WMI scan keeps **Agent** or **WMI** as its source. Only assets new to SysAid show **Lansweeper** or **Intune**, so filtering by **Source** won't reveal everything an integration has touched.

## What the list shows

The asset list opens in the **DEFAULT** view. A view controls which columns appear, in what order, and which filters are available above the list.

SysAid provides several views out of the box, and you can create your own. To switch views, use the **View** drop-down. To change what the current view shows, click **Customize view**.

Please note:

Some of the views SysAid provides also drive other screens in the product. Customizing one of those changes those screens too, not just this list. See [Working with the Asset List](https://documentation.sysaid.com/docs/working-with-the-asset-list) before editing a view you didn't create.

Most columns explain themselves. Three are worth knowing about before you start:

**Source** How the asset got into SysAid. This determines how much SysAid knows about it, and which fields hold data when you open it.

**Asset Status** Where the asset sits in its lifecycle. These values are defined per account rather than by SysAid. To see or change them, go to **Settings** > **Customization** > **Templates & Fields** > **Fields Value Lists** and select the **Asset Status** list.

**Disabled** Whether the asset is currently disabled. Disabled assets stop reporting inventory, stop being monitored, and don't count against your license total. See [Working with the Asset List](https://documentation.sysaid.com/docs/working-with-the-asset-list).

For what every other field on an asset means, see [Asset Field Reference](https://documentation.sysaid.com/docs/asset-field-reference).

Please note:

An asset's group and company can limit which Admins are able to view or modify it, depending on their permissions. If an asset you expect to find is missing from the list, check your permissions before concluding the asset isn't there. See [Managing Agent and Admin Permissions](/v1/docs/managing-agent-permissions) for how permissions work, and [Asset Groups](https://documentation.sysaid.com/docs/asset-groups) for how groups are set up.

## How assets connect to the rest of SysAid

The asset list is more than an inventory. Because assets are linked to the rest of SysAid, an asset record is also the fastest route to its support history, its patch state, its dependencies, and its monitoring. Open any asset, and these tabs connect it outward:

**Service desk** Every service record where this asset is the **Main Asset**. A good first stop when you're working an incident: if the same router has failed three times this quarter, this is where you'll see it, and it may point to a problem rather than another incident.

**Patches** The patch state for this specific asset, broken down by Installed, Approved, Failed and Missing. Requires the SysAid Agent. See [Guide to Patch Management](/v1/docs/patch-management-guide).

**CMDB** Relationships between this asset and your other configuration items, in both directions: what affects it and what it affects. Worth checking before you take an asset down, since it shows what else that outage would reach. See [Configuration Management Database (CMDB) Guide](/v1/docs/cmdb).

**Monitoring** Monitoring rules that apply to this asset, filtered to just this asset. See [Workstations/Servers/Network Devices](/v1/docs/workstations-servers-network-devices).

**Related items** Other items in SysAid linked to this asset because they address a common or connected issue. Linking is reciprocal: this asset also appears in the related items table of anything you link it to. See [Service Record Related Items in Spaces](/v1/docs/service-record-related-items-in-spaces).

To learn about the full list of available tabs, see [Viewing and Editing an Asset](https://documentation.sysaid.com/docs/asset-form).

Your assets also feed SysAid's reports, including hardware and software inventory, asset details by group, asset changes over a chosen period, and assets that have stopped updating. See [Reports](https://documentation.sysaid.com/docs/reports).
